FAQ’s
Welcome to Pack 26! We are glad
your son is interested in becoming or has become a Cub Scout. We know that he
will have a lot of fun and will learn about a range of topics through a variety
of activities and events. Since Cub Scouting is a family- and community-based
program, many events are open to the whole family.
We know that most parents have
questions when their son first becomes a Cub Scout. We hope that this
information will help answer them. Feel free to contact us with any other
questions.
·
Q.
At what age can my boy join?
·
A.
Scouts are divided into dens by age.
1st grade: Tiger cubs
2nd grade: Wolf scouts
3rd grade: Bear
scouts
4th grade:
Webelos 1
5th
grade: Webelos 2, then to Boy
Scouts
·
Q. What is a Den?
·
A.
A Den is
a small group of boys (usually 6-10 boys) of the same age who meet with their
den leaders for meetings or activities once or twice a month. Tiger cub scouts
(1st grade boys) must be accompanied by their adult partner for
their den meetings and activities.
·
Q. What is a Pack?
·
A.
The Pack is the entire group
of all of the dens together. Our Pack gathers for one Pack meeting a month and
other activities throughout the year. Pack Meetings are usually held in the
evenings on the first Friday of the month at Lenape High School 235 Hartford
Road
·
Q. What is an Achievement or Elective?
·
A.
The achievements and the electives for each Cub Scout rank are age-appropriate
activities on a range of topics. Some activities can be done with the Pack or
den, and some are done with the family or individually. All of the achievements
and electives are listed in each Handbook.
The difference between both are as follows:
1.
Achievements
are the requirements in your Scout Handbook that must be done to receive their
Den Badge at the end of the Year.
2.
Electives
are extra activities and crafts that count towards other awards.
·
Q. Now that my boy has signed up, what is next?
·
A.
We will let you know who your son’s den leader is and he or she will
contact you to let you know when and where the den meetings will be held. You
will also receive a list of all of the Pack meetings and the activity planned
so far. Our Pack primarily communicates via email, so please be sure we have
your correct email address.
·
Q. What does my boy need before his first
meeting?
·
A.
Once your son signs up, he is a Cub Scout, he will need a uniform and
his Handbook.
·
Q. What is a required Uniform
·
A. In our Pack, the required parts
of the uniform are:
1.
The
uniform shirt (blue for Tigers, Wolf, and Bears; Webelos can wear the blue or
the tan shirt) Try to buy the shirt large enough so it will take your son
through his Cub scout years.
2.
The
appropriate den and Pack insignia (the store staff will help you)
3.
The
kerchief for his rank and a kerchief slide.
4.
A
hat and a belt are optional.
5.
Our
Pack allows boys to wear jeans or khaki pants with their uniform shirt, we do
not require uniform pants.

·
Q. Where do I get the stuff I need for my
Scout?
·
A.
All of these items can be purchased at
the Burlington County Council store in Westhampton. (Directions)
·
Q. What is my role in all this?
·
A.
Spending time with your boy and having fun. All parents are required to join
one Pack committee to help plan or run activities. If each family helps with
just one small job, it makes the whole program run more smoothly. The Pack and
den leaders cannot plan and coordinate every activity and run the meetings.
Please
remember that all Pack activities are coordinated by volunteers.
Volunteers
are ALWAYS needed! New ideas are always welcome!
